Indivisible MDI is dedicated to opposing corruption, racism, authoritarianism and their destructive effect on our democracy. We advocate for policies which protect our democracy and promote equity and justice for all.

Defend Our Reproductive Rights
Saturday, October 2, 2021 Noon – 2 p.m.
Join us on the Bar Harbor Village Green at on Saturday, October 2, 2021, as we rally to Defend Our Reproductive Rights! We will have sign making and postcard writing starting at noon, speakers beginning at 1 p.m., and finish with a group photo.

This event is a sister event with the national Women’s March Mobilization to Defend Our Reproductive Rights.

Should you want to bring a sign you make at home, the national organizers are asking that we focus messaging on reproductive justice. Specifically, they have asked that we avoid images of coathangers and hand maids. Here’s why:
Coat-hanger imagery:- We do not want to accidentally reinforce the right wing talking points that self-managed abortions are dangerous, scary and harmful.
Handmaid’s Tale themed: The use of Handmaid’s Tale imagery to characterize the controlling of women’s reproduction has proliferated, primarily by white women across the country, since the show has gained popularity. This message continues to create more fragmentation, often around race and class, because it erases the fact that Black women, undocumented women, incarcerated women, poor women and disabled women have always had their reproduction freedom controlled in this country. This is not a dystopian past or future.
You may use your own words, but if you are open to suggestions, words shared by the national organizers with us are:

DO NOT USE: “Safe, legal, and rare” as it is stigmatizing and contends that abortion is not something that should be happening, thus it should be rare and reduced. There will be as many abortions as there need to be. The anti-abortion movement does not get to dictate who has abortions and why.

#ProtectDemocracyPromoteEquityAndJusticeForAllTuesdays: Weekly group visit to our Member of Congress offices in Bangor. Meet at the Town Hill VIS at 9:30 am to carpool. (The VIS is the fire station at the intersection of the Crooked Road and Rt. 102.) On Hiatus during COVID.
Indivisible MDI Group meetings are at 6:30 pm on the second Wednesday of every month, at the YWCA MDI in Bar Harbor. 36 Mt. Desert Street, Bar Harbor. A children’s area is available. Virtual during COVID.
Postcard-writing at the Jesup Library, Bar Harbor. A mail box and supplies are on a table in the rotunda: complete a postcard about something you want our Members of Congress to hear, and put the postcard back into the box. We will mail it for you. On Hiatus during COVID.

Get Involved with Georgia
The following is a link to an enormous resource complied by people in Georgia who know what they need. There is not one clear action, but a long list of ways we can be involved and be helpful.
Protect the Results is a national coalition of groups that will mobilize to take action should the current President follow through on his threats and reject the results of the election. If that happens, we will mobilize (proposeddate/time is Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at 5 p.m. local time), much the way we did with the Red Line event concerning the Mueller investigation – we commit to action andif action is needed, we respond and turn out.) There are over 100 organizations, including National Indivisible, that are a part of this effort. In addition, FREE 1.5 hour virtual trainings are being offered in De-escalation prior to this potential event These trainings (you only need to attend one) will offer you the ability to learn skills to you should you meet and need to interact with counter protestors. The classes are being taught by Clara Porter of Prevention Action Change and are being offered by Mainers for Accountable Leadership. Pre-registration for the classes is required.

Join us at 8 p.m. on Sunday, 20 September 2020, on the Bar Harbor Village Green to honor Ruth Bader Ginsburg and the courageous life of service she led.
This event will be a socially distanced, masked vigil as we mourn and honor her legacy.
We ask that you bring a candle in a mason jar or other glass container (votive candles are great!) to line the sidewalks of the Village Green. If you also want to bring a handle to hold, please do so.
RBG was a fierce champion of justice and equality on the Supreme Court. We owe her an enormous debt of gratitude, and we must fight hard to uphold the ideals of equality and justice to which she dedicated her life.
Please join us on the Bar Harbor Village Green (corner of Mt. Desert Street and Main Street in Bar Harbor, Maine, 04609) to celebrate America’s other Independence Day. Juneteenth, June 19, 1865 was the date the last enslaved people in the US were informed of their freedom granted by the Emancipation Proclamation. We will gather at 6pm to hear recordings of Black voices and a symbolic bell-ringing at 6:19 for 19 minutes. But we will not forget: his response to the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in over 109,000 deaths in the US. His response to the state sanctioned murder of Black people has ignited protests across the country. He has militarized our streets and encouraged attacks on news media
Join us to express your righteous anger, sorrow, and distress. Everything this President touches dies, so protect yourself — wear a mask and observe social distancing.

Please join us to mark the 100th anniversary of a true Suffrage milestone — the ratification of the 19th amendment granting women the right to vote!
There will be a slate of inspirational speakers as well as an open house across the street at MDI Ice Cream for warming up. A number of organizations will have tables set up so that we can convert our enthusiasm (or anger) into action.
Join us for a conversation between two friends to examine cross-racial issues. Shay and Debby are riveting. Their chats are unscripted and even they do not know where the conversation will take them.
On Monday, 9/10/2018, we joined with other Indivisible groups in Maine to sponsor ads in the Bangor Daily News and the Portland Press Herald opposing the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Our April 2018 meeting featured a presentation by Chris Cayer of MoreVoice.org about Ranked Choice Voting. It is important for everyone to understand that the June 12 election will be using ranked choice voting for primaries AND will include a statewide ballot question about continuing Ranked Choice Voting in the future.
